The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions
on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

LONDON/PORT LOUIS, Nov 28 (Reuters) – Britain is confident its plan to secure the future of
a U.S.-British military base on the Indian Ocean island of Diego
Garcia will be ratified, despite being dismissed by the new Mauritian prime minister and an ally of President-elect Donald Trump.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer wants to finalize a political agreement that hands Mauritius sovereignty of the Chagos Islands, while securing a 99-year
lease on the base.
But the agreement still needs to be ratified by both sides and a new Mauritian government has been formed by former opposition leader Navin Ramgoolam since it was agreed.
Ramgoolam’s description of the deal as a sellout before an election this month,
in which he ousted Pravind Jugnauth as prime minister, spurred a flurry of diplomacy,
with British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell flying to Mauritius.
Powell will travel to Washington soon for talks to discuss the
agreement and broader security issues, an official said.
Right-wing British politician Nigel Farage, a friend of Trump, said this month the deal would be
greeted with “outright hostility” by the incoming Republican administration.
Trump’s pick for secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has
said the deal poses “a serious threat” to U.S. security by ceding the archipelago – with its strategic
base used by U.S. long-range bombers as well as warships – to
a country allied with China.
Asked at a press conference on Thursday if he agreed with Farage’s comments, Starmer said: “Look the Chagos deal is a good deal that secures the base. That is in the vital interests of the U.S. and the UK.”
A spokesperson for the prime minister earlier said he was confident the deal would be
finalized.
“It’s an entirely usual process for a new administration to study the detail, but all indications suggest the commitment of the new administration to progressing the agreement,” the spokesperson told reporters.
British foreign minister David Lammy said on Wednesday he was confident
the deal would go through, adding that the U.S. intelligence
agencies, State Department, Pentagon and White
House had all welcomed it.
When Mauritius became independent after a century
and a half of British colonial rule in the 1960s, London retained control of the Chagos
Islands, forcibly displacing up to 2,000 people in the 1970s to make way for the
base.
Britain said last month it would hand over the islands, after years of sometimes acrimonious negotiations.
But many of the exiled Chagossians say they were not involved in the negotiations and
cannot endorse it.
U.S. President Joe Biden supported the deal when it was announced, and Jugnauth
said it marked the completion of a push to decolonise the archipelago.

said to her costar as she held out a fake microphone in front of him.
‘It’s so hard to talk about but I think we feel like we achieved what we set out to do,’ Joaquin, 49,
simply stated.
Someone on X, formerly Twitter, posted the moment online last week and it
went viral, gaining more then 437,000 views in a matter of days – and many users took their
initial silence as proof that they ‘didn’t like’ the film.
The internet has been flooded with negative posts about the
flick ever since it premiered, with one user branding it
as a ‘bore’ and another claiming it had ‘no plot.’
Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene, which saw main character Arthur Fleck (portrayed by Joaquin) brutally stabbed to death by
a fellow inmate.
This meant that the man that audiences had been watching over the course of the two movies was never the Joker at all, but in fact, the infamous villain from the Batman series was really just
the random inmate who killed Arthur in the last moments of the film.
The shocking twist left numerous viewers unsatisfied, and they took
to social media to share their frustration.

The Todd Phillips-directed musical serves as a follow-up to the 2019 box office hit, which was simply titled Joker.
The first film grossed over $1 billion and at the time was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
It received 11 Oscar nominations – two of which it won.
The sequel, however, has already been much less successful.
It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its first weekend, and has a low rating of 33 percent and 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel convolutes what could have been a
unique character study into a bloated encore that goes out with a whimper,
‘ reads one review.
Another critic wrote, ‘This movie is a disjointed mess and a waste of time.
It’s just tired, not particularly interesting, but it does look good from a production design standpoint.’

Terrifier 3 dethrones Joker: Folie À Deux as box office champ

Todd Phillips‘ sequel was officially released in theaters on October 4,
but despite expectations, it bombed, raking in just under $40 million at the domestic box office, and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book
movie history.
Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix,
49, as the Joker – a role that won him the best actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of the standing
ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.
‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is
shocked that people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered,

after the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a
comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier
this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the higher
score of C+.
Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually took
a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips –
had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget more than doubled to around $200 million for Folie À
Deux.
The sequel screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the
number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews before release.
Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel,
which features multiple musical sequences.
‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one on X. ‘What happened to the script?’
Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original wasn’t a
musical.’

The low-budget thriller, made for about $2 million and written and directed by Damien Leone, is an un-rated blood

Holding on to second place was The Wild Robot, an animated adventure about a robot named Roz who is

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap.
There may have been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much
heed. This was all about lashings of the black stuff.
Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and
caviar: ‘there are few better dishes on earth…only the price, at just
under £150, is ridiculous’
Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair backstreet.
But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning
the doors were opened to the great unwashed.
Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome –
albeit near empty – dining room, lusciously lavish,
under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The
soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up by the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.
Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale, luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous couture.
They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover
in the shadows.
We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the
noisily, glossily confident.
We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma that
had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we would have barely
blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with butter and
sour cream, are a study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises
them to the sublime. Only the price, at just under £150 each,
is ridiculous. But there are few better dishes on earth.
I’d eat this every day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously.
That’s the problem with caviar. One taste is never enough.

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since
drastically dropped.
Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually landed a little
over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55
and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux
to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews
from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for
his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film
garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original
Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International
Film Festival last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and
a critic score of 32%
However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday –
and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.
One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this.

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill.
The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered as one of the most subversive
and original films of the last decade, while its hugely
anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.
Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work
for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.
Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked
hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with her.
Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’
